Gifts across the counter (Motifs #1, #2 and #3)

Working as I do in a retail food outlet in our small country town, I often talk to my customers about my tatting.  Before christmas when I was wearing my snowflake earings, one of my older couples, told me how his mother used to tat.  Yesterday when I went to work there, waiting for me was an old tatting book that belonged to his mother.  So I am now the proud owner of this little gem.

Gift from Glen and Margaret Muller, belonged to Glen's mother Vera

I believe the book is likely from the 1930's or 1940's going by the style of pattern in the book.  They are very similar to the pattern of the Lace Mat that Jon rewrote.

I also recieved from Jon her Elegant Tatting Gems  for my Lace mat being placed in the top 5 when she held her poll.  I have tatted 3 of the motifs, Galuh (in which I miscounted the outer rings), Baiduri and Kencana.  I have used a HDT from Jess at Tat-ilicious called Just Jonquil which she dyed last year when she asked for colour palattes.

I am still teaching Alison to tat and will have a post to show her progress soon.
Happy Tatting.

12 Hearts (motifs #21 to #25)

During the last 12 months I have been tatting all 12 hearts from Tatting Hearts by Teri Dusenbury for a special project.  I have finally finished them, and will count them as the final five in my second 25 motifs challenge.
While tatting the hearts I found an easier method for doing the half daisy's on several of the patterns.  Instead of adding the third shuttle thread I used a SSSR (single shuttle split ring) to carry the thread to the otherside, then tatted the petals of the flowers.  This makes the patterns so much easier to do.
I found the hearts challenging but satisfying to do and am proud that I have completed all of them.

40 Tulips

Hello everyone,
for a Christmas exchange I received the following supplies and book.

Masterpieces in Tatting by Ben Fikkert
I then tatted the pattern 40 tulips from the book, with the rainbow HDT perle 5 cotton.  I had to add a contrasting green for some chains at the outside, and yellow for the tulip centres, so that I had enough thread to finish it.

This was a lovely pattern to tat and apart from the thread issue I could of tatted it in one pass, as I was doing with the centre.
This will be a present from my cousins daughter, I hope she likes it.

A New Begining and Motif #20

Sorry for being absent for so long.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Over Christmas while wearing my snowflake earings at the shop, one of our regular customers asked where I got them, when I told Him that I made them and that I tat, he asked if I would teach him.  So this year I have started teaching Alex, Alison, Amanda and Isabel how to tat.  3 weeks ago we had our first Tatting Tuesday.  By reading other peoples blogs when they are teaching new tatters, we started with two colour chains.  After an hour and a half of concentration, mistakes and success, they all left having mastered the flip and putting picots on their chains.  I was really proud of their success.  Next week onto rings and butterflys.

Since November I have been tatting more snowflakes, christmas ornaments as presents and using the supplies I got in a christmas exchange.
Here are some of the christmas ormaments that I gave as presents to DH's family.

I also remade the Minor flying Norwiegen Dragon as a present for a girl for her 21st. I beaded it and stiffen and placed jump rings on it and threaded a ribbon to make a necklace for her.

Hopefully it wont be so long between posts.
